I Believe in Positive Affirmations

If you’re coming across my blog it’s because you are thinking about law school, are in law school, are a person practicing law or are just looking for some motivation. Regardless the process of change, big life choices, and even just waking up to start the day can seem daunting. Alongside my JD I also obtained a masters degree, one that changed my outlook on life and has taught me to check-in with my mental health. The legal profession can be so glorified and with that “glory” comes external and internal pressures to be perfect, do all the things, and always be on your A game – at least thats how it’s felt for me. My blog title is “Lawtina Aprendiendo a Inhalar y Respirar” because as I’m preparing myself to enter the legal profession I want to remind myself to take a step back and BREATH. I went straight through to law school after college, worked (3) jobs, paid my bills, wrote my thesis, made honors, and made it to law school (more on this later). In law school I got involved with organization, made law review, worked simultaneously, maintained good academic standing, applied to fellowships and scholarships left and right, and got heavily involved with community activism. Despite all I’ve accomplished in my early twenties obtaining my B.A., MSW, and now less than 100 days from my J.D…imposter syndrome DOES kick in.

All this to say, it’s okay to take a breath, take a self care day, not do all the things, and check-in with yourself. We have one life to live and we should enjoy and live it as much as we can to the fullest. You are worthy, you are winner because you woke up this morning and took that breath. Whatever you’re facing, remember to be kind to yourself. You have already done so much. Say a positive affirmation and go on with your day. One I like to repeat to myself is:

“You are ETERNAL. You are neither here nor there, but EVERYWHERE. You have not forgotten where you COME FROM. But have LEARNED and EARNED your way into spaces not meant for you. You are GOING PLACES that no one in your family has EVER been. Your LAUGH carries LIBERATION in it. WOKE BROWN GIRL- YOU ARE REMARKABLE

Bienvenidos

Welcome to my first ever blog post! A little bit about myself — I’m a first generation Latina law student in my 3L year. I’ll start the blog anonymously, WordPress gave me a domain option, LegalTina so think that’ll be my alias for now. My favorite part is the “Tina” taken from LaTINA. I’m choosing to be anonymous because I want to be as candid as possible (to keep it real with y’all). One modo I have lived by throughout law school is “To Whom Much is Given Much is Expected”. I have been guided by many Black and Brown mentors in my life who really changed the way I view myself and my potential. Doors have opened for me and I am thankful for the opportunities and people who have guided me up to this point. Through this blog I want to be a guide, support, mentor to any person that needs it. I will share my experience and lessons related to my JD, Masters degree, life, love, faith, and all that in between. Bare with me as I adjust to the blog, functions, and overall vision. Un Abrazo—LegalTINA
